Pixar’s Incredibles 2 picks up exactly where the first one ended. The Incredibles and Frozone (Sam Jackson) battle the Underminer (John Ratzenberger) to protect the city in the first few minutes of the movie. The destruction they leave in the wake act as the catalyst to illegalising the supers. The movie which is finally in theatres 14 years after the original is every bit the movie the fans had hoped for. The sequel i.e. Incredibles 2 is a treat for the fans of the original. The fans get to see their favourite super-family one more time and they certainly do not disappoint.

Unlike the first movie, which centred primarily around Mr. Incredible/ Bob Parr (Craig T. Nelson), this one brings Elastigirl/ Helen Parr (Holly Hunter) to the foreground. Winston Deavor (Bob Odinkirk), a telecommunications tycoon and a fan of the superheroes employs Elastigirl. He along with his sister Evelyn Deavor (Catherine Keener) works alongside Elastigirl to change the perception the people have of the supers. With Elastigirl as the ambassador of the supers, Winston Deavor aims to, once again, legalise superheroes.

As Elastigirl continues her work as the public face of the superheroes, Mr. Incredible struggles with his life as a stay at home dad. His struggles to look after his eccentric super kids provides some joyous laugh-out-loud moments. Writer-director Brad Bird handles the gender role reversal perfectly. The superhuman nature of a woman’s taken-for-granted job is portrayed brilliantly through the funny struggles of Mr. Incredible. This movie shows that superheroes are not that super after all and their problems and struggles are not unlike our own.

The movie is entertaining through and through. The pace of the story is just right and there is not a single moment when you are not into it. I was laughing and admiring throughout the movie as were the rest of the audience in the early morning show. Both the new and the old characters are equally enjoyable. Edna Mode’s short cameo is just perfect. Similarly, Samuel Jackson’s Frozone, who has a bigger role this time around, does not disappoint. From the plethora of well-rounded characters, the two super-kids— Dash (Huck Milner) and Jack Jack (Eli Fucile) stood out for me. Despite this, the movie does have a minor problem. The primary antagonist the Screenslaver, in particular, is somewhat underwhelming. This, however, does not take anything away from the movie. Other major characters include Violet Parr (Sarah Vowell) and Void (Sophia Bush).

To sum it up Incredibles 2 is another fine addition by Disney and Pixar. This is a movie for people of all ages. This is one of those movies you will not regret spending your valuable time and money on. If you want to have a good time and let the steam off, this is the movie for you. In addition, if you are a fan of the superhero movies you definitely do not want to miss it. This movie provides some much-needed change of scenario in the superhero genre. So, if you want to watch a movie more grounded in reality (whatever that may mean) unlike the universal scales of the Marvel and DC movies (Infinity War in particular), this one is for you.
