Not New at All
Despite what many people believe, a New Year's Day is not new at all.People celebrate a New
Year’s Day as if it is something genuinely new. But, no there is nothing
new about a New Year’s Day. It is not
unlike any other day and like any other day, it is what you, make of it.
Nothing more, nothing less.
For me, every day is a new day and every New Year’s Day is something old-something very old. When you think about it, every other day is different than the rest and not at all different at the same time. Every day is new- and that is its oldness. It is how you perceive it. So, what is new about a new year? If you think it comes once a year then think again, because so does every other day. Not a single day is a duplicate of any bygone or forthcoming day. Each day comes only once in a year! So, why is a New Year’s Day so special?

The idea that you have to wait for a New Year’s Day to celebrate the days ahead, to make resolutions is something I detest. Why wait when you can celebrate for a better future on any given day? Why wait to make promises, to make resolutions? Why?! Doesn’t make sense. If you want to do or, not do something so as to help you achieve your goals, why not do it right now? Why wait for some “New Year’s Day”? But then people seldom stick to their “New Year’s Resolutions”. So, that figures.
For a doer each day is new one, an opportunity, a new hope- “New Year’s Day” or not! Each passing day is a chance to do something better, a chance to improve. And it makes perfect sense too. Does it not? Why celebrate just one day when you can celebrate each day every day? Why see a chance of redemption in just one day when each day can be a day to redeem? Why see hope in just one day when every single day can sprout a new hope? Why?
Every day is unique. See each day for what it is. See the newness of each day. Celebrate the New Year’s Day but celebrate the remaining days even more.
